The lively calls of the hawkers taking orders, the rhythmic clatter of woks and utensils, the inviting aroma of freshly prepared food, and the sight of customers patiently waiting to collect their meals have long been part of Singapore’s morning market scene.

I remember grabbing a quick breakfast before rushing off to school, while adults picked up food on their way to work. Life was busy, we seldom paused to appreciate these ordinary routines.

I realise that every meal was a quiet reminder of God’s faithful provision. Day after day, without much thought, He graciously supplied all that we needed. What once seemed like ordinary moments were, in fact, daily expressions of His loving care and faithfulness.

Day after day, year after year, our Heavenly Father has supplied our needs. Not always with abundance, but always with enough. Long before food reaches our table, God has already been at work. Through the labour of farmers who cultivate the crops, fishermen who bring in the day’s catch, suppliers who transport the produce, market vendors who prepare the ingredients and hawkers who lovingly cook each meal, God provides for us through the work of many hands.

Jesus taught His disciples to pray, “Give us today our daily bread.” These simple words remind us that every meal is ultimately a gift from God. We may pay for our food, but the strength to work, the harvest from the land, the skills of those who prepare it, and the opportunity to enjoy it all come from His gracious hand.

The next time you receive a meal—whether at home, in a hawker centre, or at a neighbourhood coffee shop—pause for a moment before you eat. Offer a quiet prayer of thanksgiving. Remember that your Heavenly Father already knows your needs even before you ask Him. He has faithfully cared for you throughout your life, and He will continue to sustain you with His wisdom, love, and provision in the days ahead.

Often, God’s greatest miracles are not the extraordinary ones that capture headlines, but the quiet, everyday blessings that appear faithfully on our table. They arrive so regularly that we can easily overlook them, yet each one is a gentle reminder that God has never stopped caring for His children.

May every meal become an opportunity to give thanks. And as you receive God’s daily provision with a grateful heart, may you also become His hands of generosity, sharing your blessings with those who have less and reflecting His love to those around you.
