In the busyness of life, it has become increasingly rare for the whole family to gather around the breakfast table before everyone heads off in different directions. Yet those seemingly ordinary mornings often become some of the most treasured memories we carry in our hearts. Looking back, I can still picture the table set with simple fare, the aroma of freshly brewed coffee or toasted bread, the cheerful chatter, gentle laughter, and conversations about the day ahead. There was comfort in simply being together before work, school, and life’s responsibilities called us away. Those precious moments remind us that the richest blessings are often found in the ordinary rhythms of everyday life.
As I reflect on those mornings, my heart is filled with gratitude for God’s countless new beginnings. Every sunrise has been a fresh gift of His mercy, every meal a reminder of His faithful provision, and every moment shared with loved ones a reflection of His unfailing love. Through seasons of joy and celebration, as well as times of disappointment and weariness, He has remained faithful. He has renewed our strength when we were tired, restored our hope when we felt discouraged, and graciously given us another day to trust Him and walk in His ways. Truly, His mercies have been new every morning, quietly sustaining us and filling our lives with reasons to smile.
As the years pass, family routines may change. Children grow up, parents grow older, and the breakfast table may no longer be as full as it once was. Yet God’s faithfulness never changes. The same loving Father who watched over us in those precious years continues to watch over us today. He remains the Giver of every good gift, the One who faithfully provides for our needs, and the God who lovingly invites us to begin each new day with Him. Every morning is another reminder that His grace is greater than yesterday’s failures, and His hope is brighter than tomorrow’s uncertainties.
May we receive each new day with thankful hearts. Let us leave behind yesterday’s worries, regrets, and disappointments, and embrace today’s opportunities with renewed faith. May we cherish the people God has placed in our lives, never taking for granted the ordinary moments we share together. Above all, let us remember that every sunrise is God’s loving invitation to begin again—to walk with Him, trust Him more deeply, and become a blessing to others through the grace we have so generously received.

Robert Robinson (1735–1790) was an English Baptist minister and one of the most gifted hymn writers of the eighteenth century. His childhood was marked by hardship. His father died when Robert was young, and he was apprenticed to a barber in London.
As a teenager, Robinson lived a reckless life and had little interest in Christianity. Everything changed in 1752 when he attended a series of sermons preached by the renowned evangelist George Whitefield. Whitefield’s powerful preaching deeply convicted him, and after a period of spiritual struggle, Robinson placed his faith in Christ.
He later became a Baptist minister, preacher, and author. Although he experienced seasons of spiritual difficulty and self-doubt, his writings reveal a deep appreciation for God’s grace. At just twenty-two years of age, he wrote “Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing,” a hymn that continues to encourage Christians to remember God’s faithfulness and depend on His grace.
The Story Behind the Hymn
Robert Robinson wrote “Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing” in 1758 as a testimony of gratitude for God’s transforming grace.
Having experienced a dramatic conversion from a rebellious youth to a committed follower of Christ, Robinson wanted to express both his thankfulness for God’s mercy and his awareness of his own weakness.
One of the hymn’s most memorable lines is: “Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it, prone to leave the God I love.”
These honest words reflect Robinson’s understanding that every believer needs God’s grace not only for salvation but also for daily faithfulness.
Another distinctive phrase refers to “raising my Ebenezer.” This comes from 1 Samuel 7:12, where the prophet Samuel set up a stone of remembrance to celebrate God’s help. Robinson used this biblical image to encourage believers to remember God’s faithfulness throughout their lives.
Over the centuries, the hymn has become one of the church’s most treasured songs of gratitude, humility, and renewed commitment to Christ.
