After the Flood, Noah planted a vineyard. He drank wine and got drunk, then fell asleep unclothed in his tent. His youngest son saw him and told his brothers. They covered their father and avoided looking at him. When Noah woke, he learned what happened. He cursed his youngest son’s family and blessed the others. Each son had many children and grandchildren. Among them was Nimrod, a skilled hunter and the first dictator, who founded Babylon.
The people of Babel decided to stay together rather than spread out as God commanded. They built a tall tower to keep them united. God saw this and said, “If they stay together, nothing will be impossible for them.” So, He confused their languages, and they could no longer understand each other. They stopped building the tower and scattered across the world. This place became known as Babel, or the Tower of Babel.
Shem was Noah’s oldest son. His descendant Peleg’s name means “division,” because the earth was divided during his time. His great-great-grandson was Abraham.
