The Transfiguration Story

Jesus took Peter, James, and John with Him up a high mountain to pray. As He prayed, the disciples grew heavy with sleep. But when they awoke, they saw something extraordinary: Jesus’ appearance had changed. His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became dazzling white, filled with light.

Then they saw two men standing with Him—Moses and Elijah—glorious in appearance. They spoke with Jesus about His coming suffering and the fulfilment of God’s plan.

Overwhelmed by what they saw, Peter said, “Master, it is good for us to be here. Let us put up three shelters—one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” He did not fully understand what he was saying.

While Peter was still speaking, a bright cloud surrounded them, and the disciples were terrified. Then a voice came from the cloud, saying, “This is My beloved Son. Listen to Him!”

The disciples fell face down in fear. But Jesus came and touched them, saying, “Get up. Do not be afraid.” When they looked up, everything had returned to normal, and only Jesus remained with them.

As they came down the mountain, Jesus told them not to tell anyone what they had seen until He had risen from the dead. The disciples were puzzled by what He meant.

They then asked about the teaching that Elijah must come first. Jesus explained that Elijah was to come and restore all things, but he had already come, and people had treated him as they pleased. He was referring to John the Baptist.
