Mount Sinai & Ten Commandments Story

Three months after leaving Egypt, the Israelites camped at Mount Sinai. Moses went up the mountain, and God told him to tell the people that if they obeyed His commandments, they would be His treasured, holy people.

The people agreed to obey. God instructed them to prepare by cleansing and washing for three days. On the third day, the mountain burned with fire, thunder, lightning, and trumpet sounds as God spoke.

God gave the Ten Commandments:

Worship only the Lord.

Do not make idols.

Keep God’s name holy.

Rest on the seventh day.

Honor your parents.

Do not murder, commit adultery, steal, lie, or covet.

The people feared God’s voice and asked Moses to speak for them. Moses reassured them and returned to God.

God then gave Moses detailed laws on living, treating others, offering sacrifices for sin, and building the Ark of God. Finally, God gave Moses two stone tablets with His laws written by His own hand.
