Moses lifts his hands to Heaven Story

As the Israelites journeyed through the wilderness after leaving Egypt, they were suddenly attacked by the Amalekites. Moses instructed Joshua to lead the Israelite army into battle while he stood on a nearby hill holding the staff of God in his hands.

During the battle, something remarkable happened: whenever Moses held up his hands, Israel gained the advantage; but whenever he lowered them, the Amalekites began to prevail. As the day wore on, Moses grew tired. Seeing this, Aaron and Hur brought a stone for him to sit on and stood beside him, each supporting one of his arms. With his hands held steady until sunset, Joshua and the Israelites defeated the Amalekites.

After the victory, God instructed Moses to record the event as a reminder of His faithfulness. Moses then built an altar and named it “The Lord Is My Banner” (Jehovah Nissi), declaring that the victory belonged to God. He is the source of victory. Even great leaders need the support and encouragement of others.
