John the Baptist was sent by God into the wilderness, wearing clothing made of camel’s hair and surviving on locusts and wild honey. He preached a message of repentance, calling people to turn away from sin and prepare their hearts for God. Many came to him at the Jordan River, confessing their sins and being baptized as a sign of new life.
John warned the crowds not to rely on their heritage, saying that true faith required genuine repentance and obedience to God. When religious leaders questioned whether he was the Messiah, John replied that he was only the one preparing the way for the One who was to come, declaring that he was not even worthy to untie His sandals.
One day, as John was baptizing, Jesus came to the Jordan River. Seeing Him, John declared to the crowd, “Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!”
Jesus asked John to baptize Him, but John hesitated, saying he should rather be baptized by Jesus. Jesus responded that it was necessary to fulfil all righteousness, and John agreed.
As Jesus was baptized and came up out of the water, the heavens opened. The Spirit of God descended like a dove and rested upon Him. Then a voice from heaven said, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”
In that moment, Jesus was publicly revealed, and His ministry on earth began.
