As Jesus began His ministry, He called His first disciples. Andrew heard John the Baptist declare, “Look, the Lamb of God,” and immediately followed Jesus. He soon told his brother Simon, who came to see Jesus for himself. Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon, but you will be called Peter.”
Philip also followed Jesus and brought his friend Nathanael. Though Nathanael was sceptical at first, Jesus revealed He already knew him. Amazed, Nathanael declared, “You are the Son of God, the King of Israel.”
Not long after, Jesus, His disciples, and His mother Mary were invited to a wedding in Cana. During the celebration, the wine ran out. Mary told Jesus, “They have no more wine.”
Jesus responded that His time had not yet fully come, but Mary turned to the servants and said, “Do whatever He tells you.”
Nearby stood six large stone jars used for ceremonial washing. Jesus instructed the servants to fill them with water. They filled them to the brim. Then He said, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.”
When the master tasted it, the water had become wine—better than anything served earlier. He was astonished and said to the bridegroom, “You have saved the best wine for last.”
This miraculous sign revealed Jesus’ glory, and His disciples began to believe in Him.
