The people complained about lack of food, longing for Egypt’s provisions. God promised to provide bread from heaven to test their obedience. That night quail arrived for meat, and in the morning, manna—sweet, wafer-like bread—covered the ground. God instructed them to gather manna daily, except double on the sixth day for Sabbath rest. Those who disobeyed found their extra manna spoiled, but none appeared on the Sabbath itself. The manna sustained them for the entire forty years in the wilderness. They camped near twelve springs for over a month before moving on.
