After Ehud’s death, Israel sinned again, and God allowed a harsh Canaanite king with 900 iron chariots to rule them for 20 years. Deborah, a prophet and judge, settled disputes under a palm tree.
She told Barak to take 10,000 men to Mount Tabor, promising God would deliver Sisera and his army to him. Barak agreed only if Deborah went with him. Deborah warned the honour of defeating Sisera would go to a woman.
Barak attacked Sisera’s army, causing confusion and defeat. Sisera fled on foot to Jael’s tent. She welcomed him, gave him milk, and hid him. When he slept, she drove a tent peg through his head, killing him.
Barak found Sisera dead at Jael’s tent. Israel defeated the Canaanites and lived in peace for forty years.
