When King Nebuchadnezzar conquered Jerusalem, he brought many young Israelites to Babylon. Among them were Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Though they lived in a foreign land, they remained faithful to God and refused to defile themselves with food that violated God’s laws. God honoured their obedience, giving them wisdom, knowledge, and understanding beyond all others.

Soon Daniel gained a reputation for his God-given insight. When King Nebuchadnezzar demanded that his counsellors reveal both his dream and its meaning, no one could do it. Daniel prayed, and God revealed the mystery to him. Daniel explained that the king’s dream of a great statue represented a succession of earthly kingdoms, all of which would eventually be replaced by God’s eternal kingdom. Amazed, Nebuchadnezzar honoured Daniel and acknowledged God’s power.

Years later, Nebuchadnezzar had another troubling dream about a mighty tree being cut down. Daniel interpreted the dream as a warning that the king’s pride would lead to his downfall. When Nebuchadnezzar failed to humble himself, he lost his kingdom and lived like a wild animal for seven years. When he finally acknowledged God’s authority, his sanity and kingdom were restored.

After Nebuchadnezzar’s reign, King Belshazzar dishonoured God by using sacred temple vessels during a royal feast. Suddenly, a mysterious hand appeared and wrote on the wall. Daniel was called to interpret the message: God had judged the king, and his kingdom would be taken away. That very night, Babylon fell to the Medes and Persians.

Throughout his life, Daniel remained faithful to God. He served kings with integrity, interpreted dreams and visions, and received prophecies about God’s future plans. His story reminds us that God honours those who trust Him and that His kingdom will endure forever.
