Crucifixion Story

As Jesus carried the cross, a man named Simon was forced to help Him. Outside the city, at a place called Golgotha (“The Skull”), Jesus was crucified between two criminals. Above His cross was a sign that read: “THE KING OF THE JEWS.”

As He hung on the cross, Jesus prayed, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” The crowd mocked Him, but one of the criminals turned to Him in faith. Jesus replied, “Today you will be with Me in Paradise.”

The soldiers divided Jesus’ clothes among themselves. Jesus also entrusted the care of His mother to His disciple John.

At noon, darkness covered the land for three hours. Then Jesus cried out, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” Finally, He declared, “It is finished,” and gave up His spirit.

At that moment, the earth shook, rocks split, and the temple curtain was torn in two. Seeing these things, a Roman centurion said, “Surely this was the Son of God.”

To confirm His death, a soldier pierced Jesus’ side with a spear. Later, Joseph of Arimathea received permission to bury Jesus. Together with Nicodemus, he wrapped Jesus’ body in linen cloth and spices and placed Him in a new tomb.

A large stone was rolled across the entrance, and Roman guards were stationed there. The tomb was sealed and secured, awaiting the third day.
