Jacob’s Family Becomes the Israelites Story

Jacob sent his ten oldest sons to Egypt for grain, keeping Benjamin at home out of fear. Unbeknownst to them, the governor was Joseph, who recognized them but tested their honesty by accusing them of spying. He kept Simeon hostage, demanding they bring Benjamin to prove their truthfulness.

The brothers returned to Jacob, who refused to send Benjamin. When their grain ran out, Judah convinced Jacob to let Benjamin go with them, promising his safety. They returned to Egypt with double the money to repay what had been mysteriously returned.

Joseph invited them to his house, and the next morning, a silver cup was secretly placed in Benjamin’s sack. When caught, the brothers were shocked. Joseph declared only the one with the cup would become his slave. Judah pleaded to take Benjamin’s place to spare their father’s grief.

Joseph revealed himself, explaining God sent him to save them during famine. He invited them to bring their families to Egypt, where Pharaoh provided for them. Jacob was amazed and relieved, and he, his family, and their descendants settled in Egypt under Joseph’s protection.
